Basel Dialogues heisst die neue kritische Publikationsreihe der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel FHNW, in der international renommierte Expert:innen aus Kunst, Design und Architektur zu Wort kommen. Im Gespräch bieten sie Einblick in die Erfahrungen und Überlegungen, die sich aus ihrer aktuellen Praxis ergeben – persönlich, leidenschaftlich, nachdenklich und humorvoll.
Der erste Band mit dem Titel Reale Intelligenz (und andere Fiktionen), der von Prof. Dr. Claudia Perren, Direktorin der HGK Basel, und Quinn Latimer, Leiterin des Master-Studiengangs Fine Arts am Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN), herausgegeben wird, erscheint Mitte Juni 2024 und befasst sich mit Fragen der künstlichen und menschlichen Intelligenz, dem Verhältnis von Dokumentation und Realität sowie mit der Fiktion als Form der Gestaltung. Die Dialoge zeigen, dass die drängendsten Probleme der Gegenwart sich nicht innerhalb einzelner Bereiche und Disziplinen lösen lassen.

Basel Dialogues is a new critical book series from the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW. Published every two years, Basel Dialogues centers conversation and the dialogic form to give insight into the voices that animate the contemporary academy and the most vital questions of the day. Gleaned from the five institutes that constitute the campus of the Basel Academy of Art and Design, the conversations shed light on the ideas and conditions, forms and materials, and poetics and politics that contemporary artists, architects, designers, thinkers, filmmakers, writers and other hybrid practitioners are most concerned with, both in theory and practice, within the academy and beyond it.
The first volume of Basel Dialogues is called Real Intelligence (and Other Flows and Fictions). Featuring recent conversations among artists, architects, designers, historians, poets, and filmmakers with professors and students from the Basel Academy of Art and Design FHNW, the book’s dialogues—philosophical, fervent, often funny—concern issues of intelligence, the documentary gesture and the real, the poor copy of coloniality, and fiction as a form of design.
