Sabine Hertig - Scrap

First comprehensive monograph on the artist

With an interview between Sabine Hertig and Ines Goldbach

With essays by Christian Herren, Michael Renner, Hansmartin Siegrist, Barbara van der Meulen and Isabel Zürcher

Polar bears swimming in the water and rearing up, people hiding behind thickets and walls, fish and flowers rotating wildly, and all of this swirls into plant-like forms and architectural elements recalling eddy, cave and urban landscapes.

Sabine Hertig’s large-format collages combine thousands and thousands of fragments to make one profound overall construct. The Swiss artist has created an independent and unmistakable oeuvre that constitutes a forceful and innovative handling of the medium of the collage. Equipped with scissors and glue, Hertig repeatedly questions her own unconventional capricious idiosyncratic formal idiom, while at the same time constantly developing it further.

About the artist:
Sabine Hertig (*1982) was born in Basel and trained at the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst there. She is represented by Galerie Stampa. In 2013 she was awarded the Culture Prize of the Riehen Community, in 2017 the Prize of the Cristina Spoerri Foundation.

About the editor:Ines Goldbach (*1973) has been director of the Kunsthaus Baselland since 2013 where she provides a vital platform for young as well as established contemporary art. She has a doctorate in art history and worked, among other things, as a curator at the Hallen für Neue Kunst in Schaffhausen.

(Rolf Spriessler, Riehener Zeitung, 4.06.2018)
