The House of Research, Technology, Utopia and Sustainability – in short HORTUS – in Allschwil near Basel sees itself as an ambassador for the office building of the future. It abides by the concept of circularity and consists of local, sustainable raw materials. At the same time, it is oriented consistently around the promotion of health and creativity, along with the well-being of its users. Thus HORTUS is a perfect example of how architecture can actively contribute to an ecological and socially responsible working environment.

This richly illustrated book provides insight into the genesis of, and concept behind that pioneering project. It also presents, from a superordinate viewpoint, examples of healing architecture, along with other visionary office buildings and building materials of the future.
